2011 telecom vs internet movie changes are on the horizon

The back of one of the attachments in my cable bill has some peculiar wording about online access and I noticed that there have been no new movies released by Netflix for internet access in about 3 weeks. A lot of current movies now have a little tag that says "available until Jan 1st" or "available until Jan 11th".

I don't think Netflix is simply going to remove half the movies from its database willingly, did I miss a major announcement on the subject of cable vs internet movie access? Is the timing, right after the FCC announcement of new internet rules, related somehow?

Apparently I did, though it wasn't widely announced broadcast companies seem to have begun flexing their muscle against online and download access by netflix and itunes. I found this on cnet - [news.cnet.com...]

What a double whammy to online access. First the likelihood that ISPs will charge for access to the services and then the limitations being forced by broadcasters. This doesn't feel like progress, it feels like old school media trying to hold on to their business models despite becoming obsolete, a little like newspapers. It's the consumer who ultimately pays with fewer options that each cost more...

we are already getting bandwith caps etc etc etc....if this keeps up we'll go back to buying software on a CD/DVD!
