When are we going to get a break?

What has gone wrong with the weather in the UK? We are now into the fourth week of snow, ice and freezing temperatures and it's not even xmas yet!

I am based in the west of Scotland but it seem that conditions here are no worse than anywhere else. In fact England seems to be suffering more than us.

My wife an I left to go on holiday to Sri Lanka on 28 November, got stuck at Glasgow airport and eventually arrived in Sri Lanka after a 43 hour journey. "Ah well", we thought. "At least we are abroad and missing the worst of it!"

Five days after we got back conditions are as bad as ever and there is no sign of a respite. I never thought I would say this in winter time but I wish we could get some heavy rain!

:(

Not nearly as bad as your weather, but multiple cold snaps in south Georgia USA this early in the season has me wishing for an early spring.

Mid-west USA and it's snowed once. Light flurries overnight and some semi-slick streets.

By 10:00 am the next day it was gone.

has me wishing for an early spring

That's me every year.

Finally a normal winter after years of nothing. When I was a kid there was snow every year for at least 4-6 weeks. I bough my nephew a sled five years ago and this year in february was the first time he was able to use it and now its winter again and hey, there is real snow like in the old times. Only thing that pisses me of is, that it snows, thaws, snows, thaws, snows... I'd like it more if it snowed and then stayed really cold for at least four weeks.

What has gone wrong with the weather in the UK

What about the once in a hundred year skiing conditions ... Scotland's got some advantages with mountains , i guess England hasn't.

30C in Sydney ... Xmas on the beach

Hi all,

Yes, I am officially bored of this continued snow, we clocked up a -18 the other night (North Wales), and fortunately am staying at the folks at the moment, so I shall fix the boiler when I return home this week. No hot water & heating & the car has kicked the bucket too, hopefully 2011 will/shall/should/better be a decent year.

Whitey & Caribguy: Enjoy the mild weather and a decent bbq! Quite jealous of that now!

Seasons greeting to everyone!

Cheers,
MRb

Global warming strikes again

May be correct, one of the side effects of global warming is that the British Isles may loose their extremely mild (for the lattitude) maritime climate and have a more continental climate with greater extremes of summer and winter.

Here in the Chiltern Hills everything came to a halt on Saturday as a sudden, very heavy, snow shower hit at the peak shopping time. Took about two days to get the roads fully clear. County council have refilled grit bins twice but more seems to have gone on private land than on the highway.

We have had temperatures above zero now for about 24 hours or more and the snow is beginning to move but more is forecast for later this week (west of Scotland).

Our freeze started on 26 November so that is more than a month.

Global warmists will blame (excessive) heat, cold, hurricanes, tornadoes, flood, drought, etc. on "warming".
But never give it any credit for pleasant weather. Go figure. )

Never thought I'd be so glad to see rain in Ireland. It is around 8.3 degrees Centigrade here on the South Coast. For those familiar with the Fahrenheit scale and unfamiliar with Irish weather - that's almost Summer weather. :)

Yikes!

I've fallen on my butt on ice many times but never knocked myself out!

FWIW, if you think the UK weather is bad, the ski resorts in the Sierras had 9-10ft of snow last week with hurricane force winds up to 165mph.

Seriously, now THAT's a BLIZZARD!

I feel for everyone that was trapped in the UK airports, that has to suck.

My neck is killing me, phones NHS direct, they advised me to go to A+E. have a minor concision and strained some muscles in my neck.

I was holding a bag so thats probably made it worse, hands not able to break the fall.
