Social Media People Power Makes Retailer Do A U Turn Over New Logo [bbc.co.uk]
US clothes retailer Gap has scrapped a new logo just one week after its introduction following an "outpouring of comments" online.
In a statement released on the Gap website, Marka Hansen, president of Gap Brand North America, said the company's customers always came first.

Customers called for a return to the blue box logo "We've been listening to and watching all of the comments this past week. We heard them say over and over again they are passionate about our blue box logo, and they want it back.

Who is that a success for? Or is it a lot of people with poor taste?

The new logo lacked personality. If it ain't broke don't fix it, I don't understand why they though they needed to change the logo anyway. So, I see this as a success.

that new logo was really silly looking. I'm not their customer and even I laughed at it, what on earth were they thinking.

And to think some high paid team sat around, drummed up that new logo and had a nice long b/s presentation on why its the greatest thing ever.

Probably. But, one wonders...
When is the last time you heard anything about this retailer? When I see stuff like this, I wonder if it isn't some very sophisticated "buzz" campaign. "We create a new logo, then kill it in favor of the old logo, which our research shows people are passionate about."

This does happen. AFLAC announced that they were going to put their advertising contact up since they had learned that people didn't know what exactly they did. It was all smoke, of course, since the duck screaming their name has created huge brand awareness.

You would have to be very sophisticated to pull this off. Gap is that sophisticated.

Just saw this:
[craplogo.me...]

Now, following the logic I laid out above, hmmm, I don't think "they" did this. But, I'm not sure. That would be sophisticated.

Note: There is a link on this site to show the logos.

The new logo doesn't look like a clothes retailer. Looks like a cheap logo for some local IT company, designed by the son of a buddy of the owner who was choosen for the logo design, because his last years flier for the bake sale had been such a success.

Was it real? I assumed it was a deliberate effort to gain attention, that they always planned to revert.
