30 years ago, I was bound and determined to be a programmer. Turns out, I was a mediocre programmer. OK, I sucked at it. Computer knowledge led me to doing tech support in a market niche and over the last 25 years or so have become an expert in that niche. And I've made my living in that niche in probably 3-4 very distinct roles, from technical statistician to sales. My current job is actually direct sales in that niche (with some associates who work with/for me).

However, I just realized that I may actually make more money this year from part time ad selling in my niche, than I do from my company that does direct sales of product.

Which means I may actually move from direct sales of product to more ad selling. And all of it with my wife as business partner, run from my nice home office.

that's a long ways from me being a programmer. And alot of it just happened along the way.

I'm doing what I love, but not what I thought I'd love.

Are you doing what you'd planned on?

Hell no. I'd planned to be on the Pro Bass circuit by now.

12 years ago I became a ski instructor after skiing internationally for a few years for N.Ireland (laugh if you like, it's a bit like the Jamaican bob sleigh team)

I met a trainee instructor and we became best mates, then his father offered me a job back in the UK over the summer. That summer job lasted over 10 years working from debt management in the 1st 6 months, then onto managing website builds for affiliate groups, then managing a web development company until 2007.

Since 2007 I've been in Australia working for an AdWords company.

If you'd told me I'd be doing this job and where it would be 12 years ago I would have laughed at you.

Looks around and doesn't see tons of nameless women hanging around and Steven Tyler crashed on his couch.

Guess that's a no.

:-P

In November 1964 I started work as an apprentice electrician in a shipyard on the River Clyde. Fast forward 46 years to 08.15 this morning and I am working from home in my dressing gown doing website design so I guess that's also a no. :)
