So I've got to get up to speed fast on Mac like things due to the new computer in the house.

What should I use for Outlook like features and benefits for a Mac Book?

need to have multiple email clients, folders, calendaring, off line access, etc - just like MS Outlook but hopefully not from the 'Softies.

Always grateful for Foo!

I went Mac about a year ago and have used the Mac Mail app. Like it much better than I did Outlook on the PC - search is super fast - and I really like the smart folders - can use for project based stuff, date based stuff or whatever in combination - very useful. I check multiple accounts, no problem. Use lots of rules to move stuff to folders. When I switched to Mac I imported years of stuff from Outlook - and haven't looked back. I use iCal for calendar.

Do folks like Mac Mail (Apple Mail?) better than Entourage - for any reasons other than price?

How about Thunderbird and Eudora?

which has the largest installed base?

Chewy, I use Entourage. It works with most of my government and corporate clients meeting scheduling functions. Plus, I'm used to it. It has the calendar, etc. Still, a lot of people I respect like Mac Mail. But, it's not for me.

In its new Office for Mac, MS is coming out with a new mail system this month for Mac, so don't buy Entourage. I'm going to try it.

BTW: There is a quiet little corner of WW you might visit:

Weeks,

Thanks - this is helpful.

Fortunately, I am not intentionally doing anything on the Mac, just supporting the soon-to-be spouse.

Surprisingly no one has said anything about Eudora which was what I was expecting to be hearing about.

After Telex, Delphi, Compuserve and GroupWise (and a brief foray into something called FrameWork and MHS), I was a Eudora person and knew many others as it was the only thing around - then somehow I went over to Microsoft (for reasons lost to history back in the early 90's sometime).

I liked Eudora as the messages seemed to be in a decent enough format, as entities in a directory, rather than all mooshed together in something like a PST file. But that was tons of time ago and I have no immediate reference.

Eudora? You are old! And a geek. Eudora was a badge of honor for the geeks I knew in the 1990s.

In supporting spouses, it's vital to be trustworthy. That means competence. That means you need to have the spouse use something close to what you are using. Which is why I have the family on the Office package. Mac Mail tries to be too cute.
