Don't have much time, but I have left the cold and economically depressed area of the Pacific Northwest and am now on the sunny shores of San Diego, new position, great people, great job . . . loving it.
It doesn't come without sacrifice. Leaving everything you know behind you, your home of 38 years, is like being dropped on the planet Mars. I am here "native," brought just what I need with me (which includes my drum) and my wife is still in OR until I can save enough to move her here. I miss her terribly, but it's all good and going to work out, I can tell. I dropped off the rental car (drove 800 miles) and have only a bike for transportation, but in this wonderful city, it's all I need.
To give you an idea of just how awesome this company and it's people are, I am staying at the owner's home, rent free, until I can afford to get a place and bring my wife here. Amazing, yes, and I am thankful for having the wit to recognize the opportunity.
Everyone says I am insane. I'm too old to be starting over, I'll never make it in the "big city" (hah. I grew up in L.A.) but no one knows the exhilaration and excitement of a completely new life and new place. And I couldn't think of a better place in the U.S. to do it, diverse culture, friendly people ,and believe it or not, very little traffic and suffocation of crowds (you couldn't get me to live in L.A. for anything. :-) ) the weather is tropical, the work is *easy* for me, the pay is sufficient . . . every day it gets better.
You have to let go of all the old and familiar things to make room for anything exciting and new. I'm bustin' . . . . life is awesome again. :-)
