Torrent Supporters Aim DDoS On Entertainment Industry Sites [theregister.co.uk]
Packet floods knocked websites maintained by the MPAA and RIAA intermittently offline over the weekend. Later attacks against the BPI were not as successful, possibly because site admins were forewarned that an attack was on the way.
Participants in the attacks are invited to download one of two attack tools. It's unclear whether or not participants in the attack are using zombie networks of compromised PCs.

Reading the articles, there's a bit more going on that initially it seems.

Mainly, some of the sites that are getting DDOS'ed? Seems some of them had hired an Indian firm do DDOS some torrent sites. Assuming that DDOS'ing would seem to be legal in some places, that changes this from nasty behavior to 'turnabout's fair play'. Your organization DDOS'es someone, don't expect a lot of sympathy from me when they turn around and DDOS you right back (as much as I think DDOS should be illegal everywhere).

Yes, that's what I understood, and it's a worrying trend.
