At work with a hangover

How do people get through the day?

We've all been here before. Work is stressing you out, things aren't going the way they were planned. Where can you find solitude? The Pub.

But unfortunately with that one big night of highs, you have to deal with the lows of the day after.

How does everyone deal with work the day after? What can we do to help us get through a day of work with a hangover?

Drink lots of water, oj, get some fresh air, doze off if nobody is looking. :)

Back in the bartending days (am shifts) this use to be quite a problem sometimes. Just the smell of alchohol would make ya wanna toss the cookies.....serving and having to smell that hotel food was a challenge.

I think we have all been there before. I used to work for IBM and had to spend 12 hrs building pc's with the hangover from hell.

PS Perhaps thats why they all failed QC :)

Take a few shots before going to work. That always helps :)

I definately need a few Guinness to make me feel better, but I think the shots would quite literally kill me at the moment.

Alka Seltzer used to do the trick. But I found the better solution was to get a new job.

Drink good quality alcohol - no hangover. :)

I think if you consume enough it doesn't matter how good the alcohol is, you will still be hungover in the morning.

I remember having a discussion with someone about heavy Vs light beer. He couldn't believe how pissed he felt on light beer until I pointed out that it's not really light if you drink 30 of them.

Lots of OJ and Cup Noodles. :) Something about that cheapo MSG-loaded broth does wonders for an upset stomach.

<added>

how pissed he felt on light beer

Light beer is often lighter on calories (or color), but about the same on alcohol... I could brew a beer you could hardly taste, that looked a lot like water, that would knock you on your butt. I just can't see why anyone would want to drink light/lite beer in the first place.</added>

Hangover is a result of two things:
1. Severe dehydration
2. Blood overload of chemicals that break up sugars (alcohol)

Have one beer to level off those chemical and drink lots of pure water. Don't drink OJ, because it have fructose in it already.

Best precaution to not to have a hangover is to drink water along with alcohol while in the pub.

Water is the key.

If you get into a habit of drinking loads anyway you are always prepared for a bender. Then drink loads post session after you have had a diet coke (or full power if you are a real animal).

You then need some fat that your body always craves. Give in and have a big fat bag of crisps or a burger.

Remember the quote from Frank Sinatra (i think)

"I feel sorry for the man who does not drink. As when he gets up in the morning that is the best he is going to feel for the rest of the day".

At least your situation is going to improve. Lets thank Frank for that bit of wisdom :)

I'm sure everyone's going to hate me but I'm one of the extremely fortunate minority who never gets a hangover. This is far from being a result of my abstaining from alcohol as I'm pissed practically every day.

Actually, now I come to think of it, maybe that's why I don't get hangovers...

while not healthy, drinking more, more often seems to help me avoid hangovers entirely :)

i go for water, then tea and bacon sandwiches/rolls. Oh and a word of adivice, if you're going to actaully vomit in the workplace try and make it to the toilet first, it can take a while to get teh keybaords clean otherwise..

If you have access to a steam room/shower, sit in it for about twenty minutes.
Drink a few beers and tons of Gatorade.
Six to Eight Advil always helps too!

If you have a hangover:

First of all eat something and drink some water. Then you take 3-4 advil, 2 energy pills such as Yellow Jackets or C-4 and some sort of multi-vitamin like Centrum Performance.

To avoid a hangouver:

Before you pass out take 3-4 Advil and a multi-vitamin and drink a large glass of water.

Works everytime

i went out drinking last night and ate like a pig before i passed out. also drank a large glass of water. no hangover today. just a bit smelly(pants smell like smoke) and tired

caffiene tends to help me. on bad days all that helps is sleep and liquids

also i drank nothing but beer last night, which is pretty forgiving

I think the technical name for this is Vodka :)

Ever heard of "The hair of the dog that bit you"?

This means:

Drink a little of what you had the night before that got you drunk.

(Don't drink the same vast quantities... only a drink or two) and you'll be as good as new.

This really works! I've done it. :)

P.S. I'm not kidding... this isn't a joke or anything... it really does work. ;)

Lots of water during the night, start drinking it as soon as getting in. In the morning a well known fast food venders sausage and egg muffin, plus cola. More water + headache pills. Turning down the brightness on my monitor and or the use of shades. By lunch I'm not quite human but approaching normal.

Hair of the dog - I've only ever used it when I'm still in trouble in the evening.

they passed out samples of "Ziggy's Head Meds" at the ski trade show in Vegas a couple weeks ago - supposedly helps prevent/reduce hangovers & helps the liver - haven't tried them yet -i'll save them for SES boston or pubcon:)

The best hangover killer would be coconut juice and even eat the meat.
