I'm particularly interested in whether or not email functionality has improved such that I wouldn't miss my Blackberry.

Yeah, I am interested likewise. But my cutting edge days are over, so someone else can go first.
Especially in this case. They are pushing Droid X out too fast, with a major software update coming in September. I am planning on getting one, but in the fall and only if the reviews are good.
And, for the record, I don't for a minute buy the noise about the Droid X being sold out. They are (wisely) taking a page from the iPhone hype-masters' playbook.
