California is weighing whether to allow advert-broadcasting digital number plates on vehicles, in a bid to raise revenue for the cash-strapped state.

Drivers could select messages to display and could earn rewards from advertisers that pay the state.

The state senate is considering a bill to allow research into the move.

I heard about this on the radio last night.

Since the driver gets to control which messages to display, how long before a hack is in the wild to allow drivers to display any message they want, obscene or otherwise? Personally, I think this is wrong on so many levels, but expect that it will most likely happen in the future and become very widespread.
