I find I cannot find a way to edit the table that contains email addresses.

I do not know what the word is to describe this and if I did, I could google for a solution.

so what are the correct terms for when you have replied to an email and that email address is therefore forever known in Outlook?

You know, like when you type in the first few letters of the name and you get a list of options?

How do you edit that list of options?

It is NOT in the contact / address book.

Where is it - is this editable?

Thanks!

Not quite sure what you're asking, but have you done an export/dump of addresses to a file? My experience is Outlook is very giving in this regard.

It depends on the version of MS Outlook you are using but in the "Contacts" folder properties you can set the "Address Book" details.

My address book "folder" contains only about 12 contacts.

I've replied to hundreds of different email addresses and they are all stored somewhere else, somewhere in a mystery location.

Where are they stored?

Let's say I have a friend named Irwin.

Irwin and email every day.

By the way I am using Outlook 2007 SP2.

When I wish to send Irwin an email, I press "new email", I put my cursor on the "to" field, press the letter "i" and up pops his email address.

I select that and then proceed with the rest of the email.

Now - let's say Irwin's email address changes.

every time I try to send him a new email, I press "I" and it gives me a choice of his old email address and his new one.

How do I delete the old email address from this invisible table of email addresses.

Neither of his email addresses appear in any view of any version of any contact folders that I can find.

Where is Irwin's old email address being stored?

Thanks!

I don't Outlook... but last time I looked at MS properties a right click pops up a menu, an option of which is "delete". Thunderbird is a bit more robust and dedicated to getting things done.

I just experimented out of curiosity. Start typing the name and the drop down appears with a candidate list. Carry on typing until the one you DO NOT want is at the top of the list then just hit the delete key. I have no idea where it is stored or how to update the list in bulk.

In Outlook help read the document titled Using the automatic name fill-in feature (AutoComplete)
