Baby Sparrow w/Lump?

As I walked out to my car after work I noticed a baby sparrow squawking quite loudly in the parking lot. I put my apron in my car and walked back to the hair salon, next to where I work, and got my hair done. When I came out the same bird was still exactly where I saw it the first time in the parking lot. Afraid it would get run over or be dinner for some cat, I put it in a box and brought it home.

I read on another post on this forum what to feed it and it worked out quite well.

My question now is, it appears to have a rather large lump on it's chest at the top. Has anyone else had this experience or seen anything like this before? It also only has one eye open. You can see that there is an eye but it must have been injured at some point and it is no longer used. It is permanently closed.

This bird can hop, fly a tiny bit, has it's feathers, but still needs to be fed with a dropper.

I did a GOOGLE search to look for a bird rescue in my area and can not locate one within two hours of me. HELP...

Sadly, most bird rescues should not be made. Most of the time the bird will make out alright, or will die if it is injured (clearing the gene pool). Rescue shelters are sometime overrun with such unnecessary rescues.

Not saying you shouldn't have, just that I wouldn't have.

Hello Luvs2ShopAlot. Welcome to Webmaster World. The above quote interested me. Since this is a webmaster forum, I'm trying to figure out who was talking about feeding a sparrow. Do you have a link?

I just could NOT bring myself to leave the little bugger there to become road pizza for the next patron out of the restaurant. I kept wondering about him the whole time I was getting my hair done.

I've now learned that if this ever happens again to get a pair of gloves and move the bird to a safe location. I just think that perhaps because this one has issues, maybe it was booted out a bit too early.

It is VERY cuddly and allows you to completely hold it, pet it, and I even wiped it off with a damp paper towel after the evening feeding.

Thank you for the warm welcome lawman.

Here is the original link that I found on your forum. It dates all the way back to 2005.

Ah, I guess we will have to wait and see if it opens its eyes. We are still a little concerned about this lump, though. It is rather large (almost 1cm in diameter), dark red and hard to the touch. Touching it does not seem to cause the bird discomfort. Has anyone ever heard of something like this?

Have you considered a trip to the vet? I know . . . stupid question . . . but most of us build web sites. :-) The vets around here won't charge to **look** at a wild animal, as long as you pledge to release it if and when it heals, maybe you'll be as lucky.

Sounds like someone's been slacking in the SEO department...
