To Work or Not to Work That is the Question.

What to do if you are looking for another income stream?

Don't know if anyone will be interested in this topic. I just want to share my little problem a little bit. Most of us here are all aware that it is better to have multiple streams of income. Like the saying goes "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". I tried to apply in a BPO company. A remote staffing company so I can work at home thinking that I might be able to handle it. But I when I missed the online interview, for reason of being late, I realized then that it will consume all of my time. So in short I'll be an employee again. I have a feeling that this might be a stupid question to ask, so my question is, if you are in my shoes, what will you do? continue it or find other sources of income?

Thanks for your time and hoping some of you will share their thoughts.

Right now I am helping a friend who has been downsized from his firm. He's a highly respected pro (not in our biz), so he wants to set up a consulting biz and do seminars.

Alas, what he would really like is a job again. So, he's in a similar boat--build a consulting company or look for a job?

In his case, it's even tougher to decide what to do. People are not going to be telling him about jobs because he will appear employed. It's difficult to advise him because he's excited about the consulting company he's creating.

In any case, the answer is "it depends." You have to look at your skills in the market and your cash flow. If you can afford it, it might be best to focus on getting that high-value position you are seeking instead of doing temp work.

In web work, however, temp jobs can lead to full time work. And it good to keep your hand in, even if at a lower level than what you can do.

We have to realize that today there really isn't anything that can be honestly labeled "permanent employment." All jobs today are risky, some more obvious than others. I think it's going to be this way for decades to come, if not forever.

Of course, in the end, we're all dead.
