Do you believe in bad omen, karma and such?

I renamed my network and now my computers die.

I had to create two new workplaces recently and so I thought it would be a good idea to restructure my network a little, assign new names to the computers in the network.

So I named the workgroup "Pequod", the main Server "Moby Dick", one computer "Ismael", the other "Queequeg", another "Starbuck" and so on. You can probably guess what my computer is called.

Only three days later Starbuck died. Mainboard failure. I had to replace him with a new computer - Stubb. Two weeks later Queequeg passed away and I replaced him with Fedallah. And now Ahab is acting weird. Runs for a few minutes, then turns off. I downloaded speedfan, and indeed, Ahab is overheating. I can't see any reason though.

Ismael so far is fine. Moby Dick also seems to be in good health.

What do you think, should I rename the computers? Anybody know a good book where nobody dies?

mine are all named after ex-girlfriends (well they are current when the network computer/server is new and named)

i guess karmically they should die once they become an ex, but the truth is i seem to be able to keep electronic equipment longer than women!

Haha. Problem is I would run out of names very quickly. Not because I have so many computers though...
