I sympathise with whoever thought that up. Three thoughts about end users; 1. Most don't read the manuals. 2. When they do they don't believe them. I have regularly had people phone me to get a contact address for hardcopy. The only place that they can get the phone number is from the page where it is printed next to the address. 3. In modern offices space is at a premium, staff are often no longer allowed shelving to store harcopy manuals.

Several years ago I bough a new monitor. It was a "flat-face" CRT monitor. So I unveiled my new monitor, switched it on and immediately saw two slightly visible lines on the screen. One at the top, one at the bottoms. Of course I called the vendor to complain about - what I thought - was a defect, and he told me: "Please open your manual on page one."
And right there it was: "When turned on, two lines will be slightly visible on the screen. This is not a defect, but technically necessary and part of the flat screen technology."
