Small problem, Vista based machine several weeks ago stopped updating from Microsoft. It gives an error report about not being able to connect.

Reinstalled Vista today and its still not updating.

Ive switched off teh user control thingy but nothing else, any ideas as to whats causing it ?

It might be worth running Windows genuine advantage to see if it has stopped receiving updates due to a license issue? Would hate to think what can happen if a keygen creates the valid key you are using.

What service pack are you currently on. If not the latest manually download and run that.

If you don't know which update is failing install

MBSA microsoft baseline security analyzer

This will allow you download and install patches one by one. You should at least be able to install most patches and have more info about the failing one.

Failing any of the above, check the hosts file and see if it's blocked there.
