Actually it probably should be Anyone in Indonesia?
According to The World Factbook 2002: http*//www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/id.html#People there are approximately 231,328,092 (July 2002 est.) anyones in Indonesia.
While Countries of the World http*//www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107634.html holds that number slightly higher at 232,073,071 (growth rate: 1.6%).

There are probably many here who know people in Surabaya and i know a few internet related company personnel there and webmasters etc.
After all its the second biggest city in the 4th biggest country in the world population wise i think.

Reasoning is, in my mind people on Webmaster World generally (and this is almost certainly an over-generalisation) have some idea of how to make good user-friendly web-sites without junk code, java-script, flash, etc. My experience of Indonesian-constructed sites is the reverse of this, but this perhaps may be only true in my particular area and I haven't looked around enough.
Lets just say that around 90 to 95% of software used in Indonesia is pirated (this seems to be the range of most estimates). Not difficult to understand given the price of Dreamweaver can be a months salary to many Indonesians. As a result frequently, Indonesian webmasters from Jakarta to Bali to Bandung seem to have all the latest versions of the most expensive software on their 3 to 5 year old computers, waiting 2 minutes for a page to redraw and 10 minutes for them to start up!
But they like the visual step by step interface of such programs, given that as you know English is very much a second language in Indonesia, and is rarely spoken or read.
As you know also, internet conenections are mainly dial up, very slow and (still when i visited 3 months ago) very unstable. Given the parlous state of the Indonesian economy still, together with the factors above, I'm not surprised that professional development is slow in downtown Surabaya.
Megawati also just put up telephone rates! On the other side, there are some great talents in Indonesia, but the infrastructure holds them back, even in as big a city as S.
