My relationship to WW has changed a lot over the course of the past five years. In fact, it went through various phases: Reading; then posting to learn things; getting excited about actually having learned things and posting to share it; this phase then slowly faded out; then I came back frequently to check the homepage for news, but nothing else; now I am a bit tardy even in this discipline and come back home to WW only when I need confirmation that I am not wasting my time still working on my sites after 5 years without the major breakthrough we are all hoping for.

I probably lurked here for 3 or 4 years before registering. These days, I visit almost daily: the forums are an incredible source of information - on tech issues and applied knowledge, but also on various general topics that somehow relate to the business we're in.

The crowd here is helpful, intelligent and respectful. I wish I'd have a few drinking buddies with the scope and depth of the average regular WebmasterWorld contributor :)

Most of us are probably dreaming about the 'breakthrough' that may or may not come. While it's difficult to have a discussion about specifics, you might still get some helpful hints if you are willing to share the issues you're facing...

It might seem strange, but my own experience has run pretty similar. I had been heads down on some projects (pubcon) the last 4-5'ish years. Now that it has a life all it's own, I find myself spending a ton more time on WebmasterWorld. Mostly for the news sake. With the rapidly changing opinions on search engines, I think now is the time we will see alot of old members coming back to WebmasterWorld.

How old do you mean? Of the pre-2000 crowd? They should have all retired in villas in Beverly Hills around 2005 : ). As of the community: It is just very cosy and helpful here, which makes people come back - and be it just for the odd Friday word game or to see why their traffic dropped by two percent the day before.
