I own about 10 acres in the US really nice place I am truly favored. Last year I fenced in about an acre around the house, dug and built by hand a cattle guard to keep the dogs from getting out of the fenced in area, ran electricity to it and down to the road, about 600 feet for my future plans.

Future plans were to buy a role of goat and sheep wire 330 feet 250.00 roll one a month and do it slowly... well my problem is that hasn't happened.

I am buying a roll a week and working like a mad dog fencing in the rest of the property. Doing it by yourself is not an easy task by a long shot so what gives with me. I just can't rest I wake up before dawn on Sat and Sunday and don't come except to eat lunch and dark. Rain or shine I am out there working. In the last 2 months I have fenced in 3/4 of the place I have 2 more rolls of wire to do this weekend with only 3 more to buy and put up.

Then I am going to dig and build another cattle guard in the front and add 2 electric gates for entry. I know I won't quit till it is done the work is very hard so what gives with me am I normal or are others like me just can't ever just rest.

Work a full time job, own a brick and mortar business, an ecommerce site and many more other things I do added on the fencing I am wondering about myself.

I am asked all the time do you ever stop and frankly the answer is no I never stop until bed time.

Is this a normal behavior? Honest answers won't bother me a bit. I am who I am and that is the way it is. I am just wondering am I alone?

The reason for the fencing is I want to put some goats on the place to help me keep the place clean and some cows to raise for my own beef.

I wouldn't call it normal, but you aren't alone.

My wife is like you.

She works Mon-Fri 9-5 as an accountant
THEN
She works Fri & Sat nights 9pm-4am at a bar (Sunday this week cause it is a long weekend here)
THEN
She goes to school Sunday 1-5 and Monday 6-10 to finish her accounting credentials

Add into that her inability to relax if there is any laundry or dishes or whatever. I think you guys have a lot in common.

Fridays for her is work 9am-5pm then work 9pm-4am

Sundays for her is working from Saturday night til Sunday 4:00am then school 1-5 after barely any sleep

Mondays for her is work 9am-5pm then school 6pm-10pm

Oh and she does a ton of stuff for her mom on Sundays too.

Just make sure you give yourself time to unwind and where you aren't thinking about all the stuff there is to do. It is great to be ambitious but it isn't great to never enjoy and relax.

Sounds like you're incredibly motivated, bwnbwn. Possibly you want this, and all that comes with it, more than you know. Go for it...

Demaestro sounds like you got u one hard working woman there. It looks like there arn't any children yet and that she/you should hopefully be able to slow down some when you have them little buggers running around.

I can see it now work, pick up kids, take kids to ball field, return home cook, clean, landury, put kids to bed, work on some projects, then sleep.

Just make sure you give yourself time to unwind and where you aren't thinking about all the stuff there is to do. It is great to be ambitious but it isn't great to never enjoy and relax.

Actually I do in the early morning hours before the sun comes up I sit in the den and drink a cup of coffee and reflect on what a great life I have that I am able to do what I do.

You feel the need to be an "accomplisher". Very goal oriented. You dont want accolades for your accomplishements, but you want notice for your accomplishements.

Its what drives people like "us". im the say freaking way. (my kids are what actually make me take breaks)

if there werent around, id be working 24/7.

in the military i used to work 18-19 hrs months on end...and it was like nothing.

seeing a project through from start to finish is a high. you are probobly also very detail oriented, and organized right?

very meticulous [sp?] and at times can be neurotic, but not too neurotic.

just my theory.

Well bwnbwn,
NO You're not Alone.
IMHO there's nothing wrong with what you've described. As long as you have your priorities in the right order and none of them are neglected, I can't see anything wrong with the hard fruitful work. :)

I actually have a son that I was raising alone until he was 10 then I found Amanda and she now has taken on the role of mom, he is 14 now but we decided no more kids.... We want to travel

And you are right I have great women and I couldn't be more happy

I am her opposite tho, I procrasstinate, together we strike a good balance.

Whew thanks guys I was wondering, and it is great to read about others that share the same drive as myself.

Heck I wanted to get me an aspargas bed going this year so I built a raised bed from treated lumber I tore out from a building I wasn't using now. 3x6o feet. Weather here has been real hard lots and lots of rain so to get it in I worked on it at night with lights from my tractor after work to 11pm for a couple days till it was ready to plant.
Got it planted so now will wait 3 years before I can pick any.

I just love working the ground don't know why really I guess it is from my ancestors they were all Alabama mountain people.

I dunno bwnbwn, I've had a few drinks with you at pubcon and you seem pretty normal to me ;)

Hard work doesn't equate to being abnormal.

I've done the same thing with websites. If I have a huge project to do, I'll go to bed at 3am and my eyes will ping open at 6-7am and off I go again. To be honest, that's when I'm happiest.

You're not normal. I'm not either.

I rented a 30 yard container and jackhammered a 100 foot long stretch of drive in a single day. Under the asphalt concrete were two 14" wide x 14" thick x 100 feet long pads (think old driveways that were only paved for the car tires). It all had to come out - in one day. Towards the end of the day I had to close up the container and throw the last 20 feet or so over the five foot sides. I could barely lift my arms, but I wouldnt stop until I was done.

My neighbor came over and congratulated me...

What's so good about being normal?

As long as you're abnormal in the right direction, positive not negative, you have nothing to worry about.

We should all make it our goal to be positively abnormal! :)

You'd have more to worry about if you didn't feel driven to finish the fence. A half-built fence is not much use.

Good question. From the member post here it looks like many webers are of the same type personality very driven hard working men and women.

BillyS what were you putting in? I have never used a jackhammer but from the read I bet you were stoved up the next couple days after your totally insane job. If I were your neighbor I would have been out there with you not watching from his window :)

ChanandlerBong funny you say that
To be honest, that's when I'm happiest.
I feel the same way. All week long I plan on what I will do and set goals on what to get done.
