I went to Google Maps, and there's this male voice with a British Accent telling me about various features of the service. No indicator anywhere on the page of where it's coming from, no visual "player" or anything... just a disembodied voiceover.

reload the page, and the voice is gone.

Am I going mad
hearing voices
maybe it was those mushrooms in my omelette this morning, they didnt look right

I have never heard Google Maps talking to me...I would blame it on the mushrooms! :)

LOL. I can imagine someone trying to secretly look for something dubious, and Google maps then blurting something out loud that gets the whole office looking.

"Hi! You've selected the Chicken Ranch. This business provides the following services..."

Never has someone been more upset that his computer has a delayed shutoff when pressing the power button.
