The New Year brings about the need to resolve things that need resolving. Most years I don't make any resolutions, life is good. But this year I made one resolution - to kill my FB account.

Consider that resolution done!

Unfortunately, it's impossible for the average user to kill their FB account. If I wanted to I could simply sign up again with the same email address and find things just as I left them. Fortunately that "re-creating the account" takes a couple of steps, and in that time I might have the moment of clarity to remember why I killed it in the first place.

Got any resolutions this year? How are they coming along?

Funny you mention it, I am in the process of cleaning up parts of my Internet life, too.

Already closed my Gmail account, my Skype account, my Ebay account and even my Amazon account. Never had a FB account or I would have canceled that, too.

With gmail I am worried about my privacy - Google knows too much, they do not need to read my emails, too. Skype changed into a big time waster, once you have several dozen of contacts you either can't get any work done or you find yourself in "Invisible" mode the whole time anyway. Ebay I do not like anymore and with Amazon - I had a little trouble with the parcel service they are using in my country and as long as they keep using it I won't open a new account with them.

All in all my resolution for the new year is: Slow down life, no more "instant communication", no more "available at all times". Screw twitter, social networks and all the other time wasters.

Mine is to stop drinking coffee and just stick with tea which is what I prefer anyway. I feel much better when I do not drink any coffee.

I also plan to get rid of around 65% of my clothes and not buy any new ones. I will donate all my clothes to be thrown out to a worthwhile charity.

So I have two. Stop drinking coffee and not to buy any new clothes.

Counting calories would head the list. This self-employment thing that I've been doing for the last 10 years has added a few pounds to my waistline.

My New years resolution is to knock those pounds off.

Good luck to me....

wyweb, I am planning a low carb diet. I tried a very unrestricted version - no calorie counting, just ate less high carb stuff (grains, white root veg, sugar), especially refined carbs but as much meat, seafood, fruit and other veg as I wanted.

I am not sure how much I lost, but trousers that did not fit a few months earlier now do.

The advantage is that this is a change of diet you can stick to for life - otherwise you just put the weight back on the moment you relax, and calories counting is impossible to sustain long term.

As usual I am not setting any New Year resolutions for this coming year. I could do with eating a bit more healthily and getting a bit more exercise. Also, I need to find a new role soon.

I have resolved never to attempt to set myself any resolutions that I won't keep. So I have therefore resolved to drink more beer and enjoy life.
