This story has a happy ending. The parents were fined for the cost of manpower (11K to 14K - depending on the source) and are spending time in jail with probation. The fate of the boy is unknown.
Of course, had I read the Reuters list before posting, I would seen the story already there... GMTA, how weird is that?
I suppose I could make amends by posting a link to the story of the drunk that called 911, looking for a ride to the bar. He went to jail instead. Weird? ... naah, that's just stupidity.

Originally I was skeptical of these due to the rise of photoshop type scams - but I'm pretty sure these are real.
