It's kind of you have a choice of "landing" into your living room, kitchen, dining room, and oh yeah, the new invention - family room.
Hey you, a winner of 100s of architectural awards, the face that other 1000s architects and designer follow, have you ever heard about part of the condo called hallway? The place where you take off your dirty shoes, you keep other shoes at (in some kind of closet, storage, or furniture unit we buy and install ourselves), the place where you leave your daily jacket (like when you do quick shopping, drive kids to school and come back quickly) - have you ever heard about that?
That's also a place where you great your guests at. If you live in a house, you have your front yard, then a porch, then a hallway.
In a condo, you have a hallway only which makes it even more important part of your living.
Open kitchen - you see, I don't want to talk to my guests, to watch TV, sit with my family in the kitchen. I do that in my living room which you secretly turned into a living space, just like my dining room.
Once I'm in "that space", I don't really know if I'm about to approach my (super-duper) Sub-Zero fridge, my super-duper Samsung TV, or maybe have a supper.
Or that is maybe something called triple-play like those super-super HD packages offered today?
Yeah, putting my (and my wife's) bed into that super-super space will make it quadruple-play - just don't forget the shower please!
Or the loss of privacy with being forced to look into my entrance door all the time unless I'm asleep.
What's that for? To be sure I can run out quickly after not being able to stand the (super-duper) horror movie...
...or figuring I have to pick another bag of chips because we can't even cook as we don't know if we cook in our kitchen or our living room, pardon, living space.
You know, my wife cooks every day, we go to restaurants with kids occasionally (for fun only as that is a social thing for us, not because we're hungry).
Oh yeah, you know, when you make a plan for three bedrooms, the first type of buyer is I guess a family with two kids. Or other combination that needs three bedrooms.
Anyhow, with kids, you know, they go to schools and we need some space to put desks into their rooms, not just twin bed.
Plus, they want to play, or have some space when they have their own (little) guests.
If I ever decide to adopt a ladybug and consider it my kid, I may be satisfied with the size of non-master bedrooms.
Master bedrooms - no complaints about size, only about latest (fashionable) thing which is to go to bathroom through my (super-duper) walk-in closet, I guess so I can pick a tie quickly, depending on the prediction of the color of the product of my workforce after I get up from the toilet bowl.
At the end (of this post), I'm looking for a home, not a show or hotel room. I'm not Barbie... you idiots.
We're not from 007 movie, but people with families...
Going to the mountains... again...
P.S.
Yes, we all know you're squeezing your damned square footage into something called condo or townhouse, but my above experience is (believe or not) with plans of 2,000-3,000 sqf. Still no hallway... but I have to watch the ceramics of my entrance while eating my dinner... I can go onto the street then... Why bother...
With all the properties on the market these days, why not shop around for something you like? I mean, you might have to do some work and spend some weekends out... but certainly there is something out there to suit your needs and taste. Maybe even something in the mountains somewhere.
house
A house is a definite solution for a family for many reasons, including a back or front yard for kids.
In addition, if having a chance, you can design your own, so a hallway or anything else would not be an issue anymore. :)
But... what if a family member is a timid person and scared of an average darkness around house, and feels very uncomfortable and unprotected - or at least describes it like that?
No paranoia or anything that would be outside of the normal human character, but simply timid. :\
Plus the work around the house that we have no time for - already very busy.
Then, being very precise and picky - already kicked out trade from brand new place when they came to fix deficiencies and looked like they never held a screwdriver in their hands.
If I attempt to build a house, the best for me would be to buy a lot in the cemetery at the same time, just in case - I'm sure I would have a series of mini heart attacks followed with the big one - based on the how today's trade behaves.
I believe that one of the problems (for people like I am) is that instead of focusing on good sides of anything, we keep looking for bad stuff, and keep commenting which takes us nowhere. It's so hard to get over, as you always think you're being made a fool.
This could be because there is no trust between the seller and buyer like in the past.
Don't know... Getting away from the topic now... Maybe...
Anyway, put that damned hallway back, and give me both space and privacy, and I'll buy it...
:)
