In all the years I have been sending and receiving emails there has never been one received like this.

On the very right side at the same level as the header is a very strange image.

Has anyone ever had an email with this on it?

Screenshot of email header [foksyhost.com]

Just out of curiosity I went browsing for what I think the image looks like in miniature.

what I think the email image looks like [wired.com]

Any comments?

Some of the news readers allow an image to be added in the header.
Quite frequently in Usenet.

Welcome aboard Click!

Right-click the email, you should find "View Source" and examine it. I would venture to guess, maybe, they could be using inline CSS to float it right, and possibly negative margins, if needed. Or, more obvious, as in previous post. :-)

You've now been tracked.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.

@wilderness, rocknbil, wyweb, Leosghost Thank You All.

The email contains no css and it was not from washington irving. :)
The email was From me To me.
I lost an email and had to copy and paste from my domain folder. Striped out the garbage then pasted it into a new email and sent it to myself.
I wanted the file to be in an email folder.

Any more ideas of what it might be?
I take it none of you have seen this before either.

Are you using Thunderbird e-mail client?

Thunderbird has an add-in that shows an icon representing the sending client.

@Hoople - Not using Thunderbird.
I am using mac mail which actually will not let me send html. It allows receipt of html though. There is a workaround for putting html signature - I use that - but sending html as routine is not allowed.
I'm thinking that the message I copied and pasted (since it was in HTML) may have been the cause of the wierd image appearing.
I will test that theory sometime.

@blend27 - I'm looking into that possibility. Found this little tidbit: "Washington Irving is signed by other people to documents which triggers several military investigations as to who Washington Irving is." :)

It's one of a number of images supplied that can serve as an icon to be associated with your user account on the Mac.

Go to System Preferences -> Accounts -> Click on Image.

You'll see 30 images that you can choose from and set as your default icon - or you can add your own. You can see this image via Mac Mail in the position you describe when reading your own messages. Check any of your sent messages and you'll see it's there too.

@Syzygy
Well, I'll be.
Never new that.
I looked at my sent emails and it appears only on those sent from one address.
Went to my system user Address Book Card and added more email accounts to it so they will also have this little image. I changed the image while at it.
Add another item to my trivia list.
