over-writting when doing a correction

Since I started using win xp about a year ago I have noticed an intermitant problem. Lets asume you have just typed up something like a web form or even in an aplication such a note pad. You then spot an error and go back to correct. As you type in the correction it begine to over write the existing text... for example....

[you make a mastake]

you click just after the "a" and delete it

[you make a mstake]

you then type your "i"

[you make a mitake]

and it over writes the s

I have noticed this now and then on various machines running windows xp, is this a common issue and if so is there a fix for it?

Sounds to me like you hit the "insert" button on your keyboard, which toggles between insert and overwrite mode... Either that, or a flaky keyboard - Spill anything on it lately?

I get the same problem from time to time on XP, and it is certainly not because I have hit the insert button.

The only way to add new text when this happens is to hit the insert button, or start again. :)

I've seen it occur inexplicably on w2k at home. Its a minor irritant, but it isn't an oft-occuring thing.

Its not the insert key. Its something terribibble and unknown. The Phantom of the opera, if you will.

It's not the insert key :) It is just really anoying. the best way to stop it happening is to save the work, re-open it and then edit it. If you close the aplication all seams to work normaly again.
