anyone ever experienced this? I type along and suddenly the cursor jumps up a line or two and continues to type there. It's VERY annoying to say the least. anyone have any idea what it could be?

Using a touchpad?

You could be accidentally brushing it as u type.

On occassion, I have the same weird problem with my laptop (not a toshiba). I think jack just hit upon a likely answer. Though I usually use a trackball, I've noticed before that when I use the case as a wrist support the touchpad can act screwy re cursor placement --skips around, etc.

it is a touchpad, I've been trying to becareful of it while typing, but it is still happening. strange because if I am brushing it I must do it the same way all the time because the cursor moves to just about the same place all the time. I was thinking it was some tech issue, but I'll test it with the touchpad off more tonight.

Any chance it is the "satellite" model, im using one here. I get the same problem, im guessing its my fat hands pressing down on the CD-ROM / battery panels are the bottom of the keyboard next to the touchpad ;)

craig,

I have a Dell laptop and the touch-pad is so sensitive that sometimes just leaning on the case make the pointer move

>fat hands pressing down

Right, same here. I tend to bear down on the front section of the case on the flat areas either side of the touchpad. I think it's pressure warping the touchpad, not actually brushing it.

BOL -- yup it's a Satellite! I went nuts one day last month and got the new one with the 16 inch screen.

RCJ -- "pressure warping the touchpad, not actually brushing it". Thanks! I bet that's it because I've been really careful lately to not brush the pad itself.

Sounds like we've solved it. I've never had a touchpad so that's why I thought it must be something else. Thanks!

I've got a HP laptop that does the same sorta the same thing - next to the touch pad it's got a smaller vertical pad that acts like a scroll wheel. It's very very cool but it's so sensitive that you pretty much just have think about it and the window will scroll. I have to be pretty careful when typing.

My apple does the same thing... drives me batty... and my hands aren't fat either, hehe, so it must just be a universal sensitivity issue with the touchpads.

A trade-off I'm willing to make though. I got a desktop touchpad to replace my mouse a while ago, and while it never did anything strange when I bumped it, it often didn't do anything when I tried to use it either. ;)

What I think is really entertaining (when I'm not annoyed by it) is how absolutely nutty the touchpad will go if my fingertip is the slightest bit damp when I use it... wow.
