There are definite seasons where I live so eventually I'll have to take my new found cycling addition indoors. When I do, I want to have a decent multimedia pc thingy in our home gym. I see a lot of stuff about mythtv and I'm interested in that.

What I want to do is:
- watch streaming movies from the internet (not that free download crap, but there are cycling videos you can subscribe to)
- watch dvd's
- watch tv; cable or satellite
- combine video with internet radio or local playlist (since many of the cycling videos don't come with a soundtrack).
- secondarily maybe surf the web.

The choices seem a bit overwhelming. Anyone able to tell me what hardware and or software I should be looking for?

I'd get a mac (imac/mini) + a USB TVtuner or eve much more simple: an AppleTV and a TV. Simple straightforward and it'll simply just work.
I've in the past (with other hardare/software) set out to build things myself: it's just not worth the effort needed.
