Wow, that's a coincidence!

Identical Lottery Numbers Come Up Twice In A Row [uk.reuters.com]

The draw of the same six winning numbers twice in a row in Bulgaria's national lottery was a freak coincidence, officials said Thursday.
Sports Minister Svilen Neikov ordered an investigation after the numbers 4, 15, 23, 24, 35 and 42 were selected, in a different order, by a machine live on television on September 6 and 10. The results caused suspicions of manipulation.

An investigation found no wrongdoing in the draw or determining the winners, its chairman Konstantin Simeonov said.

"We cannot talk about any manipulation," he said.

The chance of the same six numbers coming up twice in two consecutive rounds was one in more than 4 million but was not impossible, respected mathematician Michail Konstantinov has said.

Definitely suspicious. Wouldn't surprise me if it were rigged.

Now, if the numbers were 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, everyone would certainly know that it was not rigged. However, considering that 4 of the numbers match...

Hah, and if you take the non-matching lost numbers, and add them
8 + 16 = 24

24 was one of the six drawn numbers

And here's the real clincher that its a fix, the draws took place in the 35th week of 2009... the missing number was 35.

Do I have too much time?

This is a misleading way of representing this statistic. The numbers don't know which numbers were drawn the week before.

So, the "1 in 4 million" number is just the number of possible combinations. In other words, there's a "1 in 4 million" chance of any particular combination of six numbers being drawn and yet every week "1 in 4 million" happens.

if the balls drawn are just milligram lighter than the others, they have a better chance of being sucked up the tube of fun...

and if the other balls are heavier...well then... not so much...

maybe after it was rigged, the "rigger" forgot to take out the imposter balls and they were picked again...

hmmmm...

The article also says that 18 people split the prize the second time those numbers were drawn.

Sooo... there are 18 people in Bulgaria who always play the previous weeks numbers just in case this happens?

So on the second draw, for the minimum jackpot, winners had to split 18 ways. LOL After taxes, what was left was probably not even a 'life changing' amount of money. That's gotta sting.
