Door County authorities are trying to figure out how a motorist ended up near the top of the east arm of the Maple-Oregon Bridge across Sturgeon Bay after the arms of the drawbridge were lifted to a 45-degree angle.

That woman needs to write a thank you letter to the manufacturer of the automobile for putting in some really good brakes!

Clearly time to sue both Door County and her Sat Nav provider for not warning her that the bridge had opened.

Looking at the picture, it seems she was driving towards the photographer. Given that the bridge is protected with barriers over the entire width of the road and police telling she's not in trouble with them, it seems obvious she was still on the bridge when it started opening without getting onto it really late.

Hence the bridge operator should have known better, and let the driver off of the bridge before closing off her way out and starting to raise the bridge.

In that woman's place: as soon as the barriers to get off start to block you, at least drive up to them, if they fail to stop at least the bridge doesn't get raised there or if it would, it would not get as high ... but I guess she paniced long before she got there.

So you're near what will be the highest point of the bridge when it's raised and you slam on the brakes instead of hurrying up to get down to a lower position?!?

Let me guess.. she was talking on her cell phone and didn't notice the yellow warning light. The bridge operator was probably talking on his cell phone too and never saw her until the bridge was raising, if at all. I'm surprised the vehicle was turned around, as if attempting to get off the bridge.

My gut tells me this is a slow news day hoax.
