System idling away nicely, next thing I hear a thud from inside the case, followed by an uneven noise, killed the power from wall socket and opened case, one blade of the case cooling fan had sheared off.

I had a spare kicking about so no big deal, but have never known this to happen before.

Maybee we should all turn off our pc's and servers and send our cooling fans away for a full inspection. They could have your eye out!

Mack.

I had this happen once... to the fan on my pickup, and in the middle of the Eastern Oregon desert to boot! (For those that don't know, that area remains the lowest population densitiy in the continental United States).

I broke the opposing blade off hoping that it would be balanced enough to get me back to civilization. HAH! Lasted less than a mile.

I limped the 200+ miles back to the nearest town with an auto parts store. Seems these things don't fail, are not stocked, and can only be acquired via special order.

I opted to finish the 3k+ mile trip without a fan. Never had a problem. In fact, I didn't replace the thing for another 10K miles or more.

I would guess trucks are far more over engineered than computers...
