One of the Fourth Estate who actually subscribed to the term "journalist". Sad he's gone... even more sad we don't have journalists like him anymore.

Apparently brought on by the current state of "journalism".

If "current sate of 'journalism'" is I want to change the world in a liberal/socialistic manner... Cronkite didn't bring that on. :)

He was old school.

Now that much of the MJ hoopla has died down, the press was actually able to give some space to Walter Cronkite's passing. (Unlike Farrah and Karl Malden, who were unfortunate enough to pass during the MJ coverage.) The second shame is his passing. The first was when he retired.

R.I.P.

60 Minutes did a real nice hour long tribute to Walter last night. It was clear from the production that they have had this "in the can" for some time. Glad Walter made them wait a long time to broadcast it.

The funny part was that Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead was a good friend of Walter and he even went to see the Dead at one of their dozens of Madison Square Garden shows. I could only imagine that many in the audience who saw Walter sitting at the soundboard just assumed they were hallucinating and it was not really Walter Cronkite doing the sound for the Dead. ;-)

RIP Mr. Cronkite.... you were a welcome fixture in my home while growing up.

Dunno why, but two phrases I remember when growing up were:

"Good night Chet; good night David . . .", and

"That's the way it is . . . "

I miss gosh awful for real journalists being involved in the news.
