What travel sites would you suggest for a family member?

Especially one who has to travel to NYC for child's surgery?

If you had a family member that had to travel to NYC from the Midwest, which ones would you suggest they check out to find good hotel and airfare deals?

I rarely travel, and don't have a clue which ones are the best to suggest to someone who has to travel to NYC late next month for their child's surgery.
