"gauge" has 5 different interpretation in my english-slovene dict. so i am not sure about this but i think it is not gauge.

not laser, but to make it is placed between some source and some other thing.

i think it is a hard one(or no one is here) so i will help a little.

i am not 100% sure but i think it is not laser..there is noi mention of laser on that page but something other in form of ray.

Shadow cone

Used to minimize the direct illumination of a neutron detector by placing it between a neutron source and the detector. This method allows for an accurate background determination, i.e., the scattering of neutrons from the floor, ceiling etc. into the neutron detector can be measured and subtracted off from the counts measured in the neutron detector without the Shadow Cone in place.
