Just a quick question really I wondered how long would it take to draw a 3d image of a saw blade think your typical hand saw or jigsaw blade.

I have been told as long as a day!

REALLY! that seems awfully long.

Any decent CAD software can repeat a pair of teeth quite easily.

OTOH a saw tooth is really not the simplest of shapes if you need it to actually work, doing the research of how the teeth need to be to work for the material you want to cut could well take a bit of time in itself.

Now most teeth on saw blades have been researched in practice over the years and they are in fabrication ground into it by automated machines, so I doubt many are actually designed in CAD packages in real life as opposed to being build on -for those whoo make this- quite common knowledge and experience.

there are already images to copy and granted on some of the blades they do have different formations but a day seems to long to me although I dont use the software.

If you have _technical_ drawings as images: should be a snap to do it in a CAD program for somebody who's experienced in the software.

If you have only photographs of an actual blade, now that's a lot more difficult as the modeling needs to be reversed, and information might well be lacking.

In essence CAD software is a tool that allows an engineer to make his/her drawings faster than should one do technical drawings on paper.
