Sun wins Java Injunction Against MS

U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz ruled that Microsoft both infringed on Sun's copyright for its intellectual property and that Microsoft must ship a Sun-compatible Java Virtual Machine (JVM) with each copy of its Windows operating system and Internet Explorer browser.

As far as client side java goes, this may be too little too late to make any widespread difference. The delay in firing up that JVM is just too much, and Flash has already taken over the animation game.

But there are some java-based chatroms and webcams that may be very glad that they won't need to accommodate two kinds of java.

I'm pleased and hope the injuction survives the inevitable court battles. Sun seems to be a little more security conscious than Microsoft.
