In just over a day, a powerful computer program accomplished a feat that took physicists centuries to complete: extrapolating the laws of motion from a pendulum's swings.

The Borg has solidified itself.

Humans are, in other words, still important.

I'm glad they were thinking of us. :)

"The real question is not whether machines think but whether men do."

I wonder what we'll do when machines do all the 'work' for us.

Maybe one of these intelligent agents should have a look at search engines... and see what Google isn't doing right ;o)

I sincerely believe humans will be in serious troubles regarding AI.

Every time I review Terminator, I feel really depressed for two or three days. Most of us will see the day when the humankind must decide if better machines will be dangerous for itself.

Sounds lik sci-fi but these things are now in the begining and will occur in next decades.
A few days ago I saw a wristwatch wit a cell phone and I remembered Space 1999. We are just now in the future. Well... we do not have spaceships but we have instant videochat (3G, very expensive too), elctric cars, minute-made food, virtual maps in the hand, a world net for info (www) and so on.

There's no future? It's here!

dude, I'm still driving around in a vehicle powered by internal combustion fuelled by gas. if that's the best they've got I'm not too worried about someone creating a cyborg just yet.

powered by internal combustion

And still essentially the same process as that invented 150 years ago but that wouldn't have anything to do with the price of oil would it? ;)

(If communications were dependent on oil prices we would probably still be using slicked up versions of the Morse Code.)

Glad to see everyone is in a cheery mood this fine day. Doing that LMAO thing over here. :)

I think it would only be appropriate to pull some quotes from one of me favorite Star Trek episodes...

We are the Borg. Resistance as you know it is over. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.

^ Did that just happen with this recent announcement?

They don't simply assimilate individuals, they strip cultures, races, entire worlds of their identity.

Social Media and Herd Concepts.

The regeneration process is also regulated by the Collective, but it is considered a low priority function.

That goes against the grain. ;)

The assimilated drone has only to listen to the murmur of thousands that transmit into his/her mind precisely the task at hand.

I think the Social Media concept was derived from the Borg episode, I really do. :)

Now, back to the seriousness of it all. How BREAK THROUGH is this announcement? Don't make my brain hurt, please. And, can we build a tool to capitalize on it? A WordPress Plugin or something?

Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a man's mind.

- Orange Catholic Bible

Once men turned their thinking over to machines in hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

- Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam

I really need to reread that book.. (Dune)

Sorry guys. BT doesn't allow coded messages on the forums. If you want to send me the code with the translation, I will repost for you.

And mine was morse code for LMAO.

I can see why it was nixed as it would cause you to go search for the Morse Code to English translator. Gotta read between the lines. ;)

I did a client Logo in braille once. For their website.

I'm still wondering how significant this Computer Program has just become. Its great to have some laughs but I'm thinkin' this is really deep stuff that Google CANNOT get a hold of!

I knew it was meant to be funny but didn't feel like looking it up. Send me the code again, I'll repost and clean this thread up.

It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever.
