Google is in late stage negotiations to acquire Twitter. . . . Why would Google want Twitter? We’ve been arguing for some time that Twitter’s real value is in search. It holds the keys to the best real time database and search engine on the Internet, and Google doesn’t even have a horse in the game.

This has been going round and round, and i'm sure Google's acquisition team is talking to many busnesses about opportunities.

Let's not lose sight of several other players that may be interested, including Microsoft and Yahoo. There's no reason why they should also not be talking to twitter.

the two companies are also considering working together on a Google real time search engine.

Whoa - is that what it sounds like? As in, Google searches the entire Internet in real time? I mean, surely the Twitter search engine (and most other site searches) is at least nearly real-time already, right?

The "negotiations" may be a trick to get Microsoft bidding and then buy it, while Google knows it'll be a dud like YouTube. :/
