Cd Rom drives

Ejects the cd before spinning down.

I am the only one that gets slightly annoyed when a CDROM drive ejects a cd whilst spinng at 15000 revs often rendering the cd well and truly buggered?

I've never seen that one before!

Make sure the system is using the proper driver - I have seen cases where an old drive that had been replaces still showed up in the Device list, even after a new drive was installed and recognized.

On a Windoze9x/ME box, that's in Control Panel->System->Device Manager->CD ROM

Check that only the actual CD-ROM drive is listed, and check it in both normal mode and Safe Mode. Remove any obsolete or duplicate listings.

Having two devices listed when only one exists can seriously confuse the OS.
