Need your remote access to the accounts receivable server restored? Marko Calasan will get right on that, after he wakes up from nappy time and finishes his afternoon sippy cup of juice.

Is it proof of genius of the kid, and/or proof that certs mean little to nothing in reality ?

CERTs might be good to impress a HR robot, but aside of that, honestly, you smell who knows his/her stuff and who doesn't in a few seconds.

Ask Dilbert :)
in a Corp no one but HR will hire, his/her next boss will have (if lucky) to chose among people selected by HR
therefore any diploma with some knowledge and experience will make you standing on higher ground than pure knowledge and big experience

It take me about three days to catch on, if recent experience is a guide.

MS (and most other vendor certs) are worthless. Take a look at an MSCE text book: it is very easy stuff. It exists purely to let HR drones tick boxes, and anyone intelligent doing it knows that.`

I think it's proof that MS certs are worthless - an 8 year old kid can pass. Even if it is a particularly gifted 8 year old kid.

agreed all around...

i got burned on my mcsa years ago... spent a ton of money to do a 9 month cert class...

(so yes i know my stuff...you can sniff me if you need to!)

but it was worthless...

yep... got me to the HR interview, my director now doesnt even care about it...

what got me my job was my ability to handle tense situations between two different departments...

my mcsa had nothing to do with it...

Thanks Federal Government for lending me all of that money i cant pay back...!

Keep calling... i wont answer!

if they are so easy then you should all get them.

Better then slapping a blank resume down.

I mean this is no different then a 13 year old kid graduating college. Does that mean college is worthless and people should stop attending?

unfortunately anyone with some investigation skills can pass those tests...

i realized AFTER i took my exams that there were all of those "virtual" tests... which were basically an exact copy of the online exams...

in pdf format you could download from pirate sites...

study one of those and you are as good as gold....

they have been corrupted.

Fortunately... my exams were free.... if anyone is a Veteran out there... any type of certification exam is free... you pay to take it... PASS or FAIL, send in the results with the receipt and they refund your money...

GREAT deal for veterans... almost any exam you can think of.

i took my MCSA that way and my CIW Master Designer that way... Go Navy!

learning a test and actually studying the material are 2 different things.

The material is actually good and if you really study and pass based on knowledge you are at a good starting point for taking it to the real world.

the real world is where you become the professional.

I look at this from an employer perspective:-

Does that mean college is worthless and people should stop attending?

It means less to me as an employer, yes. It used to show an ability to learn, which was something, but when it gets dumbed down to a point where anyone can get one, I start to look at other qualities which indicate a person has what I'm after.

A college degree is already no longer enough, for me. In fact I can honestly say a college degree (University degree in the UK) makes absolutely no difference to me whatsoever anymore.

i agree learning a test and studying are two different things...

so is actually administering a network with active directory, setting up domains, actually creating user and group accounts... getting domain permission in place...

luckily i had that opportunity in a real live environment... which sounded better than just saying i have the certification...

being able to actually walk up to a machine and explain and show that process to an employer makes a world of difference...

and being confident in how you do it....

The MCP is one exam. People usually take the desktop module first which is pretty easy. It's also multiple choice.
I'd be impressed if this kid had done the networking module, cos that's quite tricky.

Whatever the case, the kid probably needs to get out more!
