I'd like to register a 'pedia' type of domain. Like wikipedia (though not wiki, it will be a wiki in a niche).

But what vowel do I use before the pedia? a? i? o?

widgetopedia
widgetipedia
widgetopedia
?

Which one is the commonly accepted variation?

widgetopedia
...
widgetopedia

You're dead before you start, what you have there is duplicate content.

:-)

I would guess that the i, a, or o would really depend on the content of "widget."

fooapedia
blaopedia
wiiopedia

lol. I meant widgetapedia for the last one. Darnit Jim, I'm an engineer not a proofreader! :)

I'm leaning towards widgetopedia, from encyclOpedia, but was hoping there was a convention for this.

I agree with rocknbil, the best-sounding choice would depend on what the first word was.

No matter which one you decide to use, spend a few extra bucks to register the other versions and make sure you have control of them.

All I have to say is...

"How do you spell that?"

No matter which one you decide to use, spend a few extra bucks to register the other versions and make sure you have control of them.

I'd expect there to be more than a handful if you take into consideration all the typos.

Not forgetting the non-voweled version 'widgetpedia'

I think 'encyclo' is a Greek root, as opposed to 'encycl'+'<random vowel>'.

Running a few words around my mouth, 'o' feels best for most words, although some single-syllable words feel better with an 'a'.

No convention I'm aware of.

wheelopedia sounds better for instance than the rest.

to compound things, the root word ends in 're'. Like say, dare. Dareopedia. Daropedia. Darapedia.

Geesh, I'm making things worse!

poopopedia

but that will cost you royalties.

I can put you in touch with my intellectually property attorney.

I'll settle cheap, maybe half a mil.
