Is it time to give up?

For a while now I have no motivation to work on websites. I have no interest in learning new languages/styles. I have websites I no longer update. I no longer care about the customers experience while on my site - only money I make. I want to be free of the internet and actually get a life.

Is it time to give up on owning websites?!

I've been there, done that. It's not time to give up owning sites, it's time to use that income to free up your time do other things that interest you, or start a new website out of pure interest (with no ads). There are literally weeks where I'm not motivated to work on my sites.

I can relate to this very well, and up until recently like you fell back in any updates or what I became to call "boring" tasks. My way forward was to hire a friend "young and enthusiastic" to do these tasks for a percent of the income which above their own 9 to 5 income helped them. Ok, it meant that I had to do these tasks again for a short period of time to show them how and what to do. Now they can do it all and are eager to take on more of these tasks – they are now my front line communication with clients, they update the site and maintain things. This has now freed up my time no end (ok I wasn’t doing anything and letting things fall behind) and I am starting to find things exciting again doing new stuff things that I never got around to doing in the past as these smaller tasks seemed to take up all my free time.
The answer if you can afford it is to get a young relative or someone with a little knowledge in what you are doing to take on the what we find and call boring tasks for a small percent of the money. This also eggs you on to doing things as you are no longer the only one dependant on the site their beer money and little extra money is dependant on you…

Give it a try you have nothing to loose surely…

Alternative Future is right. It's time to offload the work that bores you to someone else.

I've always said, and lived by the rule, that I will never do something I don't enjoy. There is no point owning your own business (or website) if you don't enjoy what you're doing. There's no point doing a job which you get no satisfaction.

If you don't like something, anything, in your life, then you can change your life to enjoy it more!

Even if it means giving up websites and becoming a groundskeeper, trimming hedges and mowing lawns in the subshine!

What I did was basically abandon some of my small forum sites getting X,000 uniques (and less) per month. They make a little money each month so no point in just turning them off. They are getting a few visitors and I am no longer interested but it's better than nothing ;-) I do zero promotion, etc. Take Essex_boy's advice.... keep the site running so you don't regret it in 2 years. Good luck.

I eventually feel like that with anything that I have been working on for years. I have just cut out running an email newsletter for a voluntary group (a snap decision last night). I suddenly feel free, even if it is only an hour or two a month that I am saving.

If the sites can run on auto pilot then just leave them for a bit. Switch off the PC and get our of the house.

If your heart is no longer in it, consider raising cash by selling to someone that does care about the site/s. Once you have the cash you could follow your dream without the shackles.

If you feel that fed up, I find that I need some time to do something else.

I've found taking a week or two off, go somewhere where you just enjoy being there, without having to do something. Fresh air.

Don't take your phone or your laptop.

In a few days you'll feel refreshed.

Yea Exactly, leave all this for a while. Go out somewhere or atleast forget that you even have a PC, let alone websites. Do some other activity for a few days that keeps you busy (i would go build an RC aeroplane) and in a couple of weeks you would start missing what you used to do, and you will come back Stronger.

And if after some while and some other BUSY activities you still feel like not having any interest in your websites then i would follow engine's advice
