In addition to catching speeders, the 2009 Gallardo has been outfitted with a video surveillance camera, gun racks, GPS, organ transplant cooler (in the luggage compartment) and defibrillator.

This version of the Gallardo produces 560 horsepower and has a top speed of 203 miles an hour. It actually replaces an older, slower (just 180 m.p.h. or so) Gallardo that had seen some 87,000 miles of service around Rome since 2004. No doubt all of those miles were used on official police business, right?

Worth a look at the pic to see the Polizia trim.... done quite tastefully!

I guess it'll work as long as he's not trying to run down a ZR1. :)

A wiser move would have been to auction it and buy maybe 5 normal police cars for the money. If I was a local resident I'd prefer police to get that rather than one flashy car - and just think of the repair bill if they smash it! :o

Aren't their uniforms also designed by Armani? Fun place to be a cop.

At first I was like well cool and then gave it more thought and think that Lord Majestic is right.

I would rather have 5 extra cop cars than one super fast car. Also think about how much it costs to run!

According to Wikipedia the two Gallardos the Italian police got in 2004 were donated to them.
I'm guessing they got this one for free also.
I think Lamborghini wouldn't throw away the free publicity from the "worlds fastest police car".

"Fastest Police Car" might be questioned, but I support law enforcement, no matter how gussied up it might be for the media. As long as they do LAW ENFORCEMENT.

Taking chippies out on a date in a spiffy is a bit much. :)

Totally understand your point and hard one to disagree with, but I wonder if it's a case of having something that can actually catch what it's chasing?

But I wonder if it's a case of having something that can actually catch what it's chasing?

I think that may be the reason.

If I were planning a trip to Italy, I might have to find where this guy/gal is camped out and break the law just so I could get a picture with em. First I need something to challenge them with. Hmmm, maybe a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 [bugatti.com]. I could use the rear video cam to record the chase. :)

Now that would be a chase and a half. Depending on your driving though, the Veyron would destroy the Gallardo on the road, if not in a beauty contest

I suspect that will be done for you by the helicopter :)

outfitted with ...organ transplant cooler (in the luggage compartment)
I didn't think the luggage compartment on a Lamborghini was even big enough for a sandwich.

and defibrillator
I hope they get instructed on the differences between using a defibrillator and jumper cables...
