This fellow in Atlanta, Lonnie Johnson, is no slouch when it comes to things scientific. He has degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering, and he invented the Super Soaker.

Actually, because of royalties on the Super Soaker, he has been able to finance his own laboratory, and recently he announced a revolutionary system for generating electricity that contains no moving parts, uses no external fuels and generates no waste or emissions. All this system requires is heat, and apparently even a small amount of heat is all that is necessary to produce output.

The engine is scaleable and has applications ranging from supplying power for Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) to power for large-scale applications such as fixed power plants. The technology is applicable to skid mounted, field generators, land vehicles, air vehicles and spacecraft. The JTEC could utilize heat from fuel combustion, solar, low grade industrial waste heat or waste heat from other power generation systems including fuel cells, internal combustion engines and combustion turbines. As a heat pump, the JTEC system could be used as a drop in replacement for existing HVAC equipment in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.

So the guy who invented the Super Soaker wants to create massive heat-generators? Sounds like he's looking for a renewed market to me! ;)

Seriously, this sounds like quite a breakthrough, although it is also reminiscent of those "run your car on water" or "power your home for free with this device the size of a grapefruit" kinds of flyers I used to get in the mail sometimes.
