for all the stability and Linux goodness, but I think I'll miss all the different web browsers on Vista, as well as Photoshop et al.

you have more options than you would think on linux.
you can probably get all the browsers except IE and Chrome for linux.
i hear Gimp is a pretty good image manipulation program.
you can run photoshop and many other applications successfully with an emulator.

I wish it were, but it's really not the same. I'm sure chrome will be ported, and I can test in IE in a virtual machine; but I've tried with photoshop and it just doesn't work the same.

I'm switching projects soon and will be using photoshop less, so I'll give it some time and then see if I can switch.

I noticed someone was using Ubuntu in an office a
few days ago and asked her about it. The office is
a non profit and it turns out that they did not feel comfortable spending donated money on MS, or Mac,
so the 8 computers there all use Ubuntu and Open
Office. It has been a bit of a hassle with a few
problems like sending out application forms and then
getting them back filled out but not being able to
open them.

But it was just nice to see progress and with a
little more business use I'm sure things will get
better quickly.

I've got a buddy that does work with nonprofits. I think it's not uncommon to see them using linux in the office.

There's also a refurb agency locally here that takes donated computers, refurbs them and gives them away to folks that can't afford a computer. Same thing, due to cost and licensing they install linux on all their machines.

I read an article a while ago that in direct contrast to MS, newer linux distro's are actually running faster than ever, on older hardware.
