AMD vs Intel

Which do you preffer and why?

Thinking about buying a new box and would like some input on this topic.

I currently run an AMD Athlon 700 and never had any problems.

I'm and AMD fan. Why? Cheap, fast and reliable.

AMD, I prefer them because they seem to handle being clocked better tha Intel. I used to have a 266MhZ runing @ circa 300Mhz or there abouts. :)

AMD here on all the workstations, Home pc's cheap and fast

The I do have 4 server's which are Dual PIII 1gig reliable and steady away
Preference is for me lie's in what the CPU is for.

intel because in the UK there are connection problems with the home adsl modems using certain AMD chip and motherboard setups

i'm not geeky enough to know which ones offhand.

-Reliable

-Helps a small company compete with the monster in CPUs production (Intel) - we don't need just one company making cpus, it will be bad for all...... before all the Mac guys/gals jump on me, I know Motorola makes CPUs also, I am just talking about the windows side of things.

AMD Faster, less expensive and the Athlon XPs consistently outperform the Pentium chips.

Intel were the original x86 manufacturers, except for the GEC bloke who designed them first, showed the share holders they laughed (the british economy for you), introduction to INTEL.

AMD have closely match the Intel X structure, all the way through fourth generation processor arcitecture, the fith is a long way off.

I've been buying AMD chips since the K6, its the best option price wise, but not necessarily processor wise. Its all about the instructions inbeeded in the chips and the way they open logical gates. However it seems now that most of the software producers are taking AMD into account with the palimino chip, and hence INTEL are under serious threat from a company two years ago that were copying their architecture.

Much of the time when something is cheaper, if you look closer you get less.

I am not saying that is the case with AMD, for I have owned one that performed well and even though I am not a chip designer I would say it performed well in real world apps, as well as my Intel.

But now - I own a Pentium 4 - 2.0 gigahertz and have been on numerous other machines most notably the fastest Mac available and a current AMD and my impression is that the Mac was considerably behind in performance (and way more expensive... breaks the rule of my first line) and the AMD didn’t quite come up to the Intel either.

Any other comparisons?
