Cambridge University developed this super-thin electronic display, and it looks like it's going into production.

The problem is cost and feature creep. (Video and audio!) Users and makers will want it to do more and more, soon it will be a laptop.

I ride the train and read the paper. What a waste, my paper's lifespan is about an hour before it heads to a recyling bin.

I would pay a premium to get it electronically - in a format I could read...

Isn't this what the BBC, and all the newspaper websites are for?

Hmmm, but will it help someone stay warm on a cold night? Or would I want to use it (can I even use it) to help start a fire?

I generally like the idea, but looking at this tote bag I carry around, I wonder if it comfortably fit? Will the surface become too scratched over time to be readable?

It looks like a perfect device for a perfect world, but a device with drawbacks in an imperfect world.

And then I think about the recycling aspect. We can currently recycle newspaper. But electronic gadgets are much more difficult to recycle, primarily because of the heavy metal content of the components.

I choose to remain ambivalent. I like my newspaper, but I'm willing to go into the future - the admission for such a journey will be a lot of kicking, moaning, and screaming/whining.

This is why I have an EEE pc, small enough to fit in my handbag, big enough to read the screen comfortable, and I can play solitaire to ;)
