Do you ( anyone ) know of any "quiet" or near "silent" keyboards as standalones ..you know ..like as quiet as a portable/mobile / laptop ..but ..in the version that we use with desktop or workstation ..?

I need to buy two as for the next month or so due to work, that I'm doing on our house ..

I'm using two of my work stations ( the one that is exclusively for the innerwebs and another which is for webdev ) in the back of our main living room ..and the family ( mainly wife ) is complaining about the triffid like noises ..:)

So I'm in the market for at least two "quiet" keyboards / claviers to keep the peace :) ..what we can get in France is somewhat limited compared to other "english speaking" markets ..and as I don't want to start a cycle of "order ..be disappointed with the noise .."wife complain" re-order etc ..ad infinitum ..

..any help with suggestions for a quiet "keyboard" free standing would be appreciated

Portable toshiba ( got one ..cant use it where I need to for reasons too complex to go into ..It's used for me to listen to radio 4 in the kitchen via "la player" ) level of clicketty clacketty keyboard volume is OK ..but it must be as a "peripheral" ( sorry french word ..cant remember the english for it ) keyboard ..noise level will do fine ..

I already have lots of computors in the house ..dont want more ..just some trustworthy pointers to "silent keyboards" ..

Hopefully which exist in AZERTY format ( but suggest away ..even if you only know of them in english ) as I spend more time working in french than in english ..and the QWERTY ones dont have the accents that I need ..and I prefer to have them as keys rather than remember all of the combinations to get the characters in fonts ..life is too short

input from any Quebecois would be extremely welcome :)

TIA

It might seem odd, but the rubber roll-up keyboards are amazingly useable, and absolutely quiet...

[targus.com...]

It's Targus, so I'm pretty sure they'll have a French version.

Héhé !

I bought a Satellite from Toshiba recently, keyboard is really noisy because keys are too high... Anyway, tried it for a week and came back to my old Acer which has a nice, (semi-silent) keyboard.

On my side, I have looking for years for a silent mouse to get rid of the "click-click". I am "clickjacking" the all family. But none available where I am :(

rubber roll-up keyboards

I was going to suggest that.

You can also get ultra-slim keyboards which are the same design as laptops.

Or if you've got the money for gadgets, have a Google for <snip>!
