What do Americans do?

I have noticed that there has been a 50 percent drop in traffic for my PPC campaigns today (the day after Thanksgiving Day). My Google AdWords impressions have fallen by over 60 percent.

I guess those Americans have gorged themselves and have not budged from their beds. Atleast I'm sure they are not using search engines as they used to!

As a mainly business site we always brace ourselves for a significant drop in accesses during US holidays. And this always seem to impact the day before and after as well. Maybe leisure oriented or maybe even shopping sites would be different.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, Americans shop. Tomorrow will be the busiest shopping day of the year. And if you picked up an American newspaper, you found it packed with ads for Friday's sales.

I had a 50% drop in traffic to my site too, and I agree that other significant holidays (like july 4) have a similar effect.

There is a real week-to 10 day-long lull in the business world here from a couple of days before Christmas until January 2. After that, things get back to normal. Unless you're in New Orleans, where we have Mardi Gras, the Final Four (college basketball), and a couple of other major events in the first quarter of the year.

You're likely to take a pounding if you're dependent upon general traffic. But if your demographic comes from the eastern US, there isn't a bigger black hole out there than March Madness.
