Is it used for tensioning or tightening?

Not a valve, but something is definetly pressed with this thing. Somehow or other.

I don't know the exact size but I'd say somewhere between 15 and 30 cm

Not really, but when this thing is used there is definitely some tension in the air.

Would I want to use this before jumping out of a perfectly good plane?

I'd say you'd want to jump out of a perfectly good plane rather than using this.

But it is (was) used in some kind of an emergency. But not on a plane.

Does this thing emit any light or produce any electrical charge?

Does this thing emit any light or produce any electrical charge?

No it does not emit any light or electrical charge. The tension I was talking about was not meant in a electrophysical sense, but in a metaphorical sense.

But something will be kind of "emited" when this thing is used. But not from this thing but more by this thing.

No, its not a Prosthetic Eye.

Here is another hint:

This night it is a special night
As fairies dance upon the roof.
All the fairies must alight,
For grandpa just has lost a ...!

Come at me with one of those, you'll need more than the tooth fairy at your side :)

WTG Suzy. I was beginning to fear I might be here long enough to actually figure this gizmo out.

Is this device shown in it's expanded state.
That was a question, my question mark key has gone south.

OT@grandpa,
My mother had "something medical" like that, kinda creepy when you're a kid and find a similar collection in your house.
