by chance you regsiter a back order for a website like www.google.com

the website expires and you get it

what would you do with it ?

Maybe contact the previous owner, let him know, and see if he will voluntarily offer me a premium to have his site back.

Well, I wouldn't register a backorder on a company name. If I did register a backorder on a generic domain, it's because it's generic and I want it. So I'd keep it. Finders keepers and all that.

I've picked up dropped domains only to have the original owner call me meekly and ask for their domain back. (this is assuming the domain name is actually theirs, and not something generic like keyword1keyword2.com). They get it back at whatever price I paid for the domain, and if that's $10, then it's $10. I make my money in other ways.

I don't think the idea of nabbing someone else's domain by chance is the same as winning the lottery. There's other decency questions involved. People that jump on someone else's domain name through a loophole, then charge a premium may be technically right, but in general are acting like pricks - particularly when it becomes a business model. No consequences and lack of retribution isn't an excuse for one's actions IMO.
